The seventh storm to hit the East Sea this year will reach the central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An and some northern provinces, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said on Friday morning.
Moving at an average speed of 20 kilometers per hour, Typhoon Mujigae may cause flooding along the central coast, landslides and flash floods in upland regions, and rain in the north, the center said.
Meanwhile, the widespread rain caused by a tropical low since last Thursday is easing, the regional Flood and Storm Protection Center for the central and central highlands provinces said on the same day.
So far, the rain and subsequent flooding have caused VND286 million (US$16 million) in property damage in five central provinces, with Quang Tri the hardest-hit.
The weeklong bad weather has killed eight people and left three missing in the central and central highlands regions, Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted from the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Protection’s latest statistics.
